Tom Hodgkinson on the politics of the people behind Facebook

Most patently ridiculous quote I’ve read in an article of this sort: After 9/11, the US intelligence community became so excited by the possibilities of new technology and the innovations being made in the private sector, that in 1999 they set up their own venture capital fund…

Wow. After 9/11… in 1999.

Blatant errors, biases, and omissions aside, this rant is a very interesting take against Facebook. Taken with a few grains of salt it may even be useful. I think it’s important to consider the fundamental philosophies and world-views of something’s founder’s and backers.

ZFS on OS X

Now that there are New Binaries and Source for ZFS on OS X I have finally been able to run through this handy ZFS Tutorial.

It may not quite be production-ready for OS X yet (and, honestly, I’m not qualified to say at this point), but that’s no reason not to start experimenting. There’s plenty more to read on the OpenSolaris ZFS pages.

It’s only a matter of time before I’m running the ultimate home file server/media server/NAS on a quiet little Mac Mini. In the mean time, does anyone out there want me to build an OpenSolaris file server cluster for their organization? :-)
